A common purchasing mistake is to start from the largest Chinese steel group instead of first identifying the actual steel product and manufacturing process. The following is a guide to which existing producer profiles are worth investigating, not a claim that any named works is currently qualified for an EPC project.

For offshore procurement
A marketing list showing offshore plate or shipbuilding steel is a starting point only. Confirm the mill’s currently valid approvals, the specific manufacturing location, EN 10204 3.1/3.2 inspection regime, mechanical and toughness requirements, through-thickness testing if requested and the final EPC client’s AML/AVL. Even two mills within the same group are generally separate approval subjects.
Recognize producer versus pipe processor
For a seamless tube, steelmaking, tube forming and final heat treatment may be done within different parts of one integrated operation. For welded tube, the coil supplying the pipe mill may originate from a different steelmaker. The Youfa and TPCO profiles highlight why the procurement trail must name the right process.
